The Chandler’s farmhouse- The Chandler’s farmhouse is the main setting within the novel A painted house. It is a rusty farmhouse located in the rural area of Black Oak town. Most of the story occurs in the Chandler’s house as all the characters settle down in their house to aid in harvesting cotton.
The Latcher’s Shack- The Latchers lived in an old, beat down shack located about a mile away from the Chandlers. They were a poor household whose house consisted of many children. They were share-croppers therefore; they split the land with the owner. They were not the wealthiest family in town.

Point of view- The story is told through a seven years old boy’s point of view. By telling the story through a child’s eyes the reader can illustrate the effects of the secrets and lies have on a youth’s life.Using this point of view it is evident that A Painted House is about a boy’s “journey from innocence to experience” ( John Grisham-Official Site)
Perspective
Perspective- A Painted House is expressed through the character Luke who is a innocent seven year old boy. Grisham reveals all the secrets and lies through Luke. This allows the reader to understand Luke's position after each secret is e revealed and each lie is told.
