The Chandler’s farmhouse- The Chandler’s farmhouse is the main setting within the novel A Painted House. It is a rusty farmhouse located in the rural area of Black Oak town. Most of the story occurs in the Chandler’s house as all the characters settle down in their house to aid in harvesting cotton.
The Latcher’s Shack- The Latchers lived in an old, beat down shack located about a mile away from the Chandlers. They were a poor household whose house consisted of many children. They were share-croppers therefore; they split the land with the owner. They were not the wealthiest family in town.
